Artist Professional Development Related Projects

Kaleido is dedicated to the development of disabled and Deaf artists.  Currently, we are working on two key projects aimed at improving skills and creating new pathways for artist to find opportunities to find work, be inspired and push their practice further.

Kaleido and Arts Matrix have partnered together to offer d/Deaf or disabled artists:
  • 2 mini phone-coaching sessions
  • up to 3 sessions with an Arts Advisor in your area.

Further details on this exciting offer can be found here [link].

Arts Advance is seeking to develop and strengthen pathways to employment for emerging disabled and Deaf artists of all ages in the region. The project is initially being piloted in Somerset.
External Professional Development Projects:
'Sync' - New Leadership and Disability Programme
Are you interested in the interplay between leadership and disability?

Sync is a new programme that aims to energise, inform and ultimately change disabled and Deaf people’s relationship with leadership, by offering information and support, encouraging dialogue and designing leadership interventions.

Sync is for all disabled people interested in leadership and working in or around the cultural and creative sectors. It's about exploring different perspectives, and so the more perspectives we have, the better. That means we want all disabled people and people with long term health conditions to get involved - whether their impairment is a fundamental part of their identify, or simply a part of their life.

Sync is about giving people information about leadership development in ways that are accessible, relevant and, where it’s important, considering how disability may or may not impact on this

Can you help us get the message out about Sync? Please pass this on to friends, colleagues and those who you might think might enjoy what Sync has to offer. If they sign up to Sync 100 they'll get regular e-bulletins to develop their leadership knowledge, coaching questions to challenge their thinking and an opportunity to explore their perspective with others and will be eligible to apply to be part of Sync 20, a bespoke tailor made training and coaching programme in the Autumn.

DALI (Disability Action Learning Initiatiative)
DALI has just completed a year-long research project in leadership issues relating to disabled people in the arts and cultural sectors.  Funded through the Cultural Leadership Programme, part of DALI’s ‘legacy’ is a website which we hope will be of benefit to any disabled people working as or aspiring to be leaders in the arts.  It has toolkits and case studies.  There have also been two events to date: High Time, in London January 2008 which involved over 60 disabled people working in leadership roles within the arts and cultural sectors and ‘Entrepreneurs in Conversation; with Philip Patston in Exeter, April 2008.  Further events are planned and the site will be updated regularly.

DALI can lead and facilitate Action Learning Sets specific to disabled people working in the arts as leaders, artists and makers.
